Question: Are muckle born evil, or do they shape evil due to society and their surroundings?

When I began this investigation, I didnt know quite where to start. My original purpose was that the evilness shown in the have got was due to the boys surroundings. After all, when looking back at the first fewer chapters, the boys had all seemed normal. Not one of them had seemed open of murder, or any of the other un takeable actions that were made by the final chapter. Jack, Ralph, and Simon had even been fri closings originally. However, as I dug deeper into the book, I noticed changes in their characters. Jacks obsession with catch was one thing that really stood out to me. He unploughed repeating that they needed meat to survive, when, in item, there was raft of fruit for them to live off of. At the beginning of the book however, he didnt even want to be a hunter, he had wanted the choir to be the army. Therefore, I anchor his obsession with the hunt rather peculiar. Towards the end of the book, the fact that near every boy had lost all civil qualities and become evil became apparent in the brutal deaths of Simon and Piggy. I do think my initial response to the question was correct, but not in the way I had originally thought.





Since my reaction was that people arent born evil, they have evilness forced upon them, I began my investigation at the beginning of the book to search for an good standard of when the boys seemed normal. I specifically looked for an example of when Jack and Ralph had been friends, since at the end of the book Jack nearly killed Ralph. I found this example on page 27 when Jack, Ralph, and Simon are exploring the island together. Just the fact that the three of them could get along without fighting was something that intrigued me. However what really stood out to me was when it said, …soon they were a happy, heaving pile in the under-dusk (27).
