Growing up is complex, especially in a society with different cultural emphasise. This is the major issue in the novel Looking for Alibrandi discusses. A realistic view through the eyes of a seventeen year old Italian girl, Josephine.
Josephine is like many teenagers that have learned from their mistakes. This is the long route that everybody meets while growing up.
Josie Alibrandi is a girl from an Italian sufferground who is growing up in Sydney, Australia. Josie is on scholarship at a posh Catholic school where it matters what her father does. Josie doesnt know who her father is (until later(a)r on in the book) as she lives with her mum, Christine. All Josie knows is that her mother had her against her fathers wishes when she was in her late teens. Nonna Katia, Christines mother, interferes a lot with Josie and Christines lives. Josies father, Michael Andretti, comes back into Josies life with no idea that he had a daughter. When he finds out that Josie is his daughter, both him and Josie decide to have zero point to do with each other. At school Josie hangs out with her troublemaking friends, Sera, Anna and Lee. Josie has a crush on the school captain of their brother school, behind Barton. She also meets Jacob Coote, the school captain from the local state school, who asks Josie out.
