Complicating Trauma in Tension
The graphic narrative class presents methods of narration vastly different from other, more established invents. ludicrous artists Phoebe Gloeckner, Alison Bechdel, and Marjane Satrapi have skillfully utilized the unique characteristics of the gay in order to express various instances of extreme personalised trauma. These narratives are often shocking perspectives of incidents that greatly affected the single authors lives. It is interesting that the comic seems to have become such a popular form for tales of personal tragedy. In an interview with Andrea Juno in Dangerous Drawings, Phoebe Gloeckner claimed, the form of a comic sets up a tension that I like (159). This tension provides an useful tool for the authors in expressing their message accurately. Throughout Satrapis Persepolis, Gloeckners A Childs Life, and Bechdels Fun Home, a tension is apparent between the content of the material and the form through which it is expressed. Extremely violent or personally harrow tragedies are exhibited in a form that complicates the readers expectations about how one would deal with such an event.



The tension enables the authors to change massive, worldwide events, shock and complicate, and generally more effectively declare the characteristics of personal trauma.
Marjane Satrapis Persepolis takes on the grim political military post of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The content in this fountain is not a specifically personal experience. The entire people of Iran was directly affected, and the events are familiar globally. The acts of terrorism and the disturbing amounts of last that resulted from the Revolution make the topic particularly real for more people.
