The data were collected in April 2003 as a part of an ongoing research project. The check involved 924 adult Americans 18 years old or older. The survey was conducted by headphone, and was administered to the first qualifying adult who arrangeed the telephone when random c boths were made.

The survey included 27 questions of topical relevance, some of which were multiple part questions. The survey also included 18 questions that elicited demographic data and self-defined political orientations.

Not all of the 924 respondents to the survey questionnaire answered each of the items included in the survey. Some respondents had no opinion on some issues, while others did not issue enough about some issues to respond, and yet other respondents ref social occasiond to answer some questions.
